50 Reasons to Buy Vintage!

Happy Holidays! It's me, Holly at Lucitebox.com.

I've got a fun idea. You can contribute in the comments. I'm asking Vintage Clothing Bulletin readers to post reasons to buy vintage this season. I think it'll be pretty easy to come up with 50 and I'd like to see the list top that quickly!

Please post in the comments. Number your reasons! We'll keep a running tally and see how quickly we can reach fifty. I'll start with comment number 1.

1. Buying vintage shows recipients you care about them and want them to have unique gifts.

Memories ,
Finally giving someone that gift they did not receive one Christmas and they really wanted it. Last year I gave my sister a cabbage patch doll original and still in the box.
The Christmas of 1983 she really wanted it but my parents could not afford it.
The tears she cried last year will be a treasured memory for me for the rest of my life.

Giving vintage is giving green!!
It helps the environnment to give items that are vintage. They were made years ago so not taking up any resources. That is what I always talk about with customers in my antique shop. They like to be helping the environment AND giving a nifty gift, a perhaps no longer made type gift.

I gave my sister a dollhouse one year that was one she wanted as a child and never got.

The giving of a vintage item is like passing on someone else's history. Holidays are all about tradition. What could be a better time for sharing treasured vintage items?

6. Vintage items are quality items. Most are made better than new things that you buy today.

7. A vintage item will be unique. He/she won't find out that any friends/family/co-workers got the exact same thing.

Vintage is thoughtful, unique, and usually one of a kind. It's never returned to the mall.

9. Giving Vintage can recreate memories. That lost item from childhood or that old photo of grandma. Those things say more than a New Silk Scarf could ever say.

10. Reduce, recycle, reuse--giving vintage lets you care for the environment with ease.

Vintage items have the patina of life, the warmth of memories. They have heart and mystery. I love old stuff -- hope my giftees do, too!

With economic times such as we are in I cannot think of a better time to purchase an item that was made in the USA. As many vintage articles of clothing were made in the USA I think it is a show of support. It also encourages recycling and the art of recycling. Even damaged vintage clothing can be made into something new and wonderful.

Buying & giving vintage not only helps small businesses in this economy but vintage makes people happy to be able to express themselves & their personalities in a completely unique & eye-catching way. They will also own a small piece of fashion history...
