"Desperately Seeking Susan" Rhinestone Boots
You remember them - the rhinestone studded boots Madonna wears in the 1985 film "Desperately Seeking Susan". Susan strolls past the window of Love Saves the Day, a real store still open today on 2nd Avenue in New York's East Village, and spys those boots that she has to have. She trades her leather pyramid jacket for the boots and wears them rolled down.
Bakers - Leeds shoe stores owned the license to copy the rhinestone boots designed by the film's Costume Design Assistant, Alison Lances. These boots were a holy grail for Madonna wannabes in the 80's.
Madonna's fashions for this film were named one of the Top 10 Film Fashion Moments by MSN's Entertainment site. And why not? Madonna wore her own style for this film, from men's pants with black lacy bras to piles of beads, crosses, and bracelets. The black sunglasses, the scarf in the hair, and those antique earrings that play a role in the story - she made it all seem so cool.
Up for auction this week on EBay, Couture Allure has two pair of the Madonna boots, one in black and one in red. They're not the Baker's licensed boots as they're made from vinyl, not leather, and they are decorated with sequins, not rhinestones, but they are a knock-off copy of the boots from the movie, and still uber cool. And they're new, old stock, and never worn! If you were a Madonna wannabe and always wanted a pair of these boots, you can still have them!
