Project Runway - Supermarket Challenge

The first challenge on the new season of Project Runway took the designers back to the foodstore that was the scene of the very first challenge in the very first episode. The challenge was to create an outfit from $75 worth of goods bought in the foodstore.
The winner was Kelli Martin who made the dress seen on the left here. The skirt was made from vacuum cleaner bags that were dyed and bleached to create the print. The top was made of coffee filters with strips of tacks on the waist and the spiral spine from a notebook was used to make the closure on the back of the dress. Very inventive. Kelli used to sell her clothing on ebay up until earlier this year. You can check out her myspace page above.

So I tried to find some vintage items that could-maybe-remotely be related to supermarket items, to go along with this week's challenge.

Vintage 1960s Bell Sleeve SHEER White LACE TABLECLOTH TUNIC mini dress ..size..10..12

offered by GoodEye

from the listing - This garment is made of a heavy cotton lace simular to that used for dinner table cloth. There was a trend in the 60s and 70s hippy era, to cut garments from a one piece table cloth. I believe that this is one of those garments.

offered by wonderfulthings

from the listing - Very collectible vegetable garden theme that says HEALTHY WEALTHY WISE. It is in mint condition with no holes or wear at all. Size is 13 1/2" square.

Offered by marymuldoon

from the listing - This 1940's navy straw wide brim tilt with shallow crown and 3" scallop brim is trimmed with wide purple velvet ribbon in a V shape across top of crown and side spray of autum colored fruit.. Labeled "Andsco", size 23 but is universal with wide back grosgrain strap and tilt is in excellent vintage condition.

offered by ddking

With a super low starting price of $2.99!

from the listing - This 1950's Purse is tan basket style, with plastic and composition fruit decor on the lid. The sides are wood. It has 2 woven handles, with jute and wood bead closure. Measures 9 1/2 X 7 1/4, X 5 1/2 high. It is unlined. There are some minor cracks in the fruit. A cute summer purse.

Carolyn Schnurer Chickens Vintage Hanky Handkerchief
offered by posh*pig*vintage

ok, you can't make a dress out of chickens, but this chicks and chicken print hanky is very cute!
Fun vintage fine linen hanky from the 50s, signed by designer Carolyn Schurer. White, with a novelty print of chicks and eggs in the center. Border/edges is of chickens and roosters behind wire.

I'm going to trrrryyy to do a Project Runway/Vintage related post each week. But it will depend on being able to find vintage items that relate to the weekly challenges.

Bye for now, Carol

That is so creative! I'm doing a straight (more-or-less) recap of each show on my blog. What a wonderful spin! Keep up the good work!
